Former Gladiator Elliott Hicks top rookie for football Mounties

Defensive back Elliott Hicks of Fredericton has been named the Mount Allison Mounties football rookie of the year. The five-foot-11, 172-pound defensive back and punt returner won the award in a vote of players and coaches.

Head coach Kelly Jeffrey said the rookie, a graduate of the Fredericton High School football program, "impressed the coaches right from the first day of practice. He has tremendous natural ability and has worked very hard since arriving on our campus. It's rare to have a rookie come in and contribute to the program his first year the way Elliott did. He was very important to us as a defensive back and returner this year."

Hicks was also a member of the 2008 MFL Capital Area Gladiators, winners of Mariner Bowl II.
