CAMFA – August 6, 2008 Executive Meeting

Oromocto , NB  

In attendance:  Terry McIntyre, Kent Murphy, Andrew Allaby, Dave Blanchard, Shawn Fagan, Lisa Fagan, Michelle Harrison and Steve Drisdelle  

Meeting called to order at 7:10pm  

  1. President’s Report – Terry McIntyre reported on behalf of Jeff Murdock.  Terry gave an overview of the Girls Tackle program for Grades 9-12.  The certainty of the program will depend on registration numbers.  Coaches are required and the program would include two practices and one game per week.  The game would be modified for 6 on 6 play.  Equipment Fitting schedule finalized for early and public fittings.  Volunteers required for each location. 

    In other business, Terry reviewed UNB’s commitment to CAMFA for Field use during the 2008 season.  As it stands, CAMFA will play on the Turf Friday nights – 6pm to 9pm / Sundays – 9am to 6pm .  The Football Uprights will remain in place for the season – UNB to retrofit the soccer nets for ease and convenience. UNB to fund and install an official Scoreboard at some point in the future.  The erection of the Bubble to be delayed in order to accommodate Provincial play on November 9th. 

    Motion (Steve Drisdelle): CAMFA to make a financial commitment to UNB for $2,500 per year for 8 years starting in 2008.  As part of our commitment, CAMFA will commit to a $250 Advertising Board to be placed around the field during major events.  The motion is subject to final review and approval by Jeff Murdock.

  2. Coaching Coordinator’s Report – Dave Blanchard reported the majority of head coaches for the 2008 season have confirmed their positions.  Mandatory Coaches meeting scheduled for September 7, 2008 at 7:00pm at Willie O’Ree – outline includes Codes of Conduct, LTAD Model and Rule Changes.

  4. Fundraising Report – No update provided.  Kent Murphy stressed the importance of getting full support for the upcoming Fall Bottle Drive scheduled for September 20th.  The Executive discussed the importance of getting the Area VPs to solicit all coaches and managers cooperation to ensure a successful campaign.  Managers need to play a more active role in supporting CAMFA initiatives – it’s imperative that Head Coaches recruit competent managers to share in the responsibility of Team and CAMFA. 
    We have taken early steps towards soliciting financial support from the various city Service Clubs to help sustain CAMFA programs.  This effort includes correspondence and meetings with the President of each Club.  This will be ongoing through the season with the assistance of our President, Jeff Murdock.  We will research the activities of other Canadian City minor football programs that are active with community Service Clubs.  In an effort to diversify our fundraising efforts, CAMFA to consider participating in the Fredericton Sports Investment Auction.  Details to follow.
  5. Provincial Championship – Hosting Committee.  Email communication to all Head Coaches of PeeWee and Bantam teams.  A specific request to assign one parent volunteer per team to participate in the Hosting Committee.  Grant money available from the Province to assistant with the costs.  Steve Drisdelle advised the Executive that RV Trailers may be available for Officials, Media and Hospitality from RV World.  Steve suggested CAMFA President write to the GM requesting a sponsorship in kind for RV Trailers to be on site for the 2008 PeeWee and Bantam Provincials on November 9th.
