Executive Meeting Minutes
February 20, 2008
Hazen Community Center , Oromocto , NB  

Atendees:

Terry McIntyre, Andrew Allaby, Michelle Harrison, Justin DeMerchant, Steve Drisdelle, David Blanchard, Michele Coleman, Lisa Fagan, Shawn Fagan  

  1. Meeting called to order 7:00 pm by Steve Drisdelle.
  1. Minutes- no minutes reviewed
  1. President’s Report – Steve
    1. Volunteers required to help clean up equipment rooms prior to spring season start
    2. Dave to email coaches to see who is available for spring season.
  1. Registrar’s Report – Terry
    1. Registration spreadsheet had been sent out before the AGM to executive.
    2. Marion can now print out address labels for registration mailouts.
  1. Fundraising Report –Dave
    1. Dave gave $500 check from Subway to Terry for sponsorship of the Bantam League.
  1. Coaches Report-Dave
    1. 30 new coaches identified but only 5 have registered for the coaching clinic in April
    2. Maine camp on March 7,8 in Auburn ; $35pp Friday 3:45 -9, Sat 9-12
    3. Football camp at Truro Agricultural School this summer; Dave gave Terry information to put on website
    4. Coach seminar – Jeff Kelly from Mt. A at Days Inn in Oromocto on March 19
  1. Treasurer’s Report-Terry
    1. $800 in bank
    2. $1000 paid in bursaries to students
    3. $300 paid for website support
  1. Equipment Manager’s Report –Shawn
    1. Terry recommended that exec. Spend time after the next meeting to clean out the storage room at the Hazen Center .
    2. Shawn K.  should plan logic to get players fitted with equipment stored at the Willie O’Ree Center.
    3. Terry noted that Jeff wanted to separate the game pads and practice gear from the equipment by possibly installing a wall in the HC storage area; Jeff should talk to Oromocto to ensure that the plans for the walled of section is approved.
    4. Terry inquired about outstanding equipment from last year. Justin and Michelle reported that gear was returned; Andrew still had players with gear; Terry reported that 26 players still had not returned gear from last year.
  1. Other Business
    1. Terry reported problems with website- previous host had transferred business to another company. CAMFA/ Football web master in Saskatchewan is now back up but cannot yet be updated.
    2. Terry reported that City provided spreadsheet on field times available for spring season.

                                                               i.            Terry will put together tentative practice and game schedule

    1. Spring Season – Dave

                                                               i.            Planning meeting on March 15 to see commitment on # teams at each age group

                                                             ii.            Not sure about Moncton ’s team participation rate

                                                            iii.            Spring season to start April 5. Terry recommended players contacted soon

1.      Discussion on how to increase attendance at practices –potentially having practices before games, use coaches on field during more house games

2.      Fewer players per team would result in more players at the younger age group.

3.      Dave pointed out that practice time was important for skill development

4.      Action – Terry to send out notices identifying practices on April 5 and 12 at the Base Field House; Chapman Field opens on April 14- field practice starts

b.      <15 Moncton potential competition (best situation may end up with 2 Moncton teams)

c.       <17 St. John , NS potential competition

5.      Dave indicated that there may be potential teams in Sussex and Hampton

    1. Dave –

                                                               i.            Quarterback Camp – March 5,6 at Oromocto HS

                                                             ii.            Junior World’s Championship to be in Dayton Ohio in 2009.  Football Canada supporting program for <17, <19, <21 age groups, which rec. that coaches start to look at players from <15 age groups on up to target talent for additional training programs

                                                            iii.            Coach Seminar –

                                                           iv.            Maine Football Camp –

1.      Dave requested $200 subsidy to cover some registration and some gas money

                                                             v.            Information on availability of Junior Development Program for funding available to start football programs in areas with no programs in place

                                                           vi.            Potential Matt Dunnigan as draw for fundraising dinner

                                                          vii.            Program available on Football Canada website to identify what skills are needed for players at each level

    1. Men’s League – Terry

                                                               i.            Terry requesting times for men’s and women’s leagues at Chapman Field.  Looks like games could be on Friday nights

                                                             ii.            $60 per hour for field time for adults

                                                            iii.            City subsidizes youth play at $36/hour

                                                           iv.            Practice fields can be rented at Lincoln Heights for $17/2hours

                                                             v.            Women’s fees to be $150 this year

                                                           vi.            Men’s League – Andrew

1.      Andrew to be manager

2.      Will request $175 registration all at once before gear is issued

3.      No meetings scheduled yet

4.      Based on cost, practices will not be on turf field – Terry noted

                                                          vii.            Terry identified that team had option to rent either FHS gear or CAMFA gear
