Minutes

October 21/07  

Attendance: Jeff Murdock, Kelly Murdock, Terry McIntyre, Marion McIntyre  David Blanchard, Joni Blanchard,  Andrew Allaby, Michelle Harrison,  Kent Murphy , Justin DeMerchant, Steve Drisdelle  

Absent: Ray Muir, Gary VonRichter, Jay Madore
 

1. Presidents report

 

Meeting opened with the minutes from the last meeting being reviewed and accepted.

- 10 man Bantam program cancelled

- gear to begin being returned on Tuesday, volunteers to get racks/totes for the Fredericton team required

- no Friday night football at UNB this season, looks good for next season

- remainder of Peewee and Bantam games to be played at MacKenzie field in Oromocto

-football room ready at Northside arena  

2. Registrar’s report

 

-          527 total registered, basically same as last year

-          Jeff wants David to go to the schools to recruit for the Squirt program.  Go on PD days to “present” plan to teachers.  Prepare a package for the schools to handout.  Tie this in with the “Leads” program at OHS for the Bantam program.  

 3. Fundraising report  

  - $8300- raised to date, add this to the Spring fundraising and it is over $11,000.  This represent a 40% increase from last year.  

Bottle drive for next season: working with “Best Metal” would allow us to collect longer, sort in the afternoon.  Establish 3 site “Bottledrive” packages for coaches.  

4. Equipment Managers report  

Jay absent Jeff will contact him as to the f ridge at the Hazen Centre.

Sean Kitchening to manage the northside equipment room.  A trial was ran in Oromocto with supplying coaches with 2 goal post pads.  This went well, but we will need to purchase additional sets in order to supply each coach with pads and pilons.  Also it was suggested we purchase hockey bags to carry the items.  

5. Coaching Coordinator’s report:  

David to bring a list to the next meeting of all coaches certified and not certified.  Big push needed to get coaches certified.  Looking at doing clininc in the spring for Level 1 & 2.  Also a Coaches Super day or Level 3.  He will submit a grant shortly.  Concern this year in regards to 4 reported concussions.  Need to document the helmets and keep track.  Are kids leading with the head and not being called?  

6. Official report:  Ray absent.   

-need to get coaches in a room and go over the tackle football rules by the spring.  Have a chalkboard session.

- still need more “adult” officials.  Terry would be prepared to lead an Orientation session for the officials.  Code of Conduct to be included/attached  to registration and to be signed by player/parent/and coach.  

7. Treasurer report:  

    -  $60,000- in bank, however, bills need to be paid.  Marion will have the numbers for the next meeting on paper.  We are still waiting for money from Jumpstart and St. Mary’s  

Other Business:  

-          Graham Packman looking for a Mosquito team to play in Nova Scotia . Jeff to pass info on to coaches.  Also, Moncton looking for one day tournament sometime in Nov.
