Oct. 29                                            Championship

West End Rough Riders 9 Nashwaaksis Axemen 8

The Axemen recovered the opening kickoff but were unable move the ball and had to punt. On their second play from scrimmage, Riders QB Kyle Arsenault found Wes Durling in behind the Nasis defence and hit him on a 50 yard pass and run play for a touchdown. The Axemen got close in the second quarter but had to settle for a single on a missed field goal by Jason Hearn. West End lead 6-1 at the half.
In the third quarter Philippe Long booted a 15 yard field goal to put the Riders up 9-1. The Axemen would answer back when QB Jason Hearn, while in the grasp of a pair of Rider defenders, found Tom MacLean in behind the West End defence for a 40 yard touchdown play that narrowed the score to 9-7.
The snap on the convert was off the mark. Hearn scooped up the loose ball and ran in for the convert. However, in minor football kicked converts are worth two points while those by pass or run are only worth one point. Consequently the Axemen still trailed 9-8.
Neither team was able to score in the fourth quarter and the Rough Riders emerged with their first Mosquito championship in team history.
