8 Man Canadian Football Rules and Regulations

                                                                                                                                      Revised September 2, 2007

(1) NUMBER OF PLAYERS ON THE FIELD

Teams will play with 8 players on the field. The offence must have at least 3 players on the line of scrimmage; four less than for 12 player football. The "Tackle" position has been eliminated.  Receivers can line up either on or off the line of scrimmage.

(2) PRESSURE DEFENCE RESTRICTIONS

The defence can have as many defensive lineman as the the offense has interior offensive lineman (ie. C, G, TE). Linebackers and defensive backs are not allowed to blitz. Defensive ends cannot line up wider than an "outside shade" on the most outside interior offensive lineman, (i.e. G, TE). The defensive end's inside foot cannot be outside of the offensive lineman's outside foot.
Linebackers and defensive halfbacks must line up at least 3 yards off the line of scrimmage. Corners are exempt from this rule.
If this rule is violated the defence will be penalized 5 yards for "illegal defence".
This rule is not in effect when there is 2 yards or less to go for a first down or when the offense is scrimmaging inside the defensive team's 3 yard line.
This rule also applies to special teams.

Any receiver player lined up on the line of scrimmage must be at least 3 yards outside the G on the snap to NOT be classified as a TE for the purposes of this rule. Any player lined up behind the line of scrimmage (other than the QB) must be at least 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage OR 3 yards outside the G on the snap to NOT be classified as a TE for the purposes of this rule.

(3) FIELD WIDTH

The field will be 40 yards wide. When playing on a standard 65 yard wide Canadian Football field pylons will be placed on one set of hash marks in order to narrow field width to 43 yards.
