Football league starting up for high school girls Published in the Daily Gleaner on Saturday September 20th, 2008
TACKLING A NEW CHALLENGE: A six-aside tackle football league for local
high school girls is now a reality. So far, 16 players from Fredericton
High, Leo Hayes High and Oromocto High have been divided onto two teams
— the Spartans and the Outlaws. They will play against each other
today at 4:30 p.m. at Lincoln Heights Field and will play each Saturday
there until the final game Oct. 25. League organizer Michelle Harrison
would like to see each team grow to 12 players. Above, Harrison, right,
explains proper defensive tackle techniques to Heather Brown, left, and
Ashleigh Green during Thursday’s practice at Lincoln Heights.
